Woodstock Police announced on Monday that a man has been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting “numerous victims” over a decade ago.
The Woodstock Police Department said that on January 1 they were made aware of several alleged sexual assaults against numerous victims by the same suspect.
Police said that all of them occurred in Woodstock in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Following an extensive eight month investigation, Richard F. Wachter, 53, of the 300 block of Raffel Road in Woodstock, was arrested.
Wachter was charged with predatory sexual assault of a child, three counts of aggravated sexual assault, three counts of sexual assault and four counts of aggravated sexual abuse.
“The legal guidance of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office was heavily relied upon during the investigation due to a recent change in Illinois law that extended the statute of limitations in sexual assaults to juvenile victims,” Woodstock Police said.
“Due to all the victims being juveniles at the time these crimes occurred, no further information will be released,” authorities added.
The Delafield, Wisconsin, and San Diego, California Police Departments also assisted in the investigation.
Wachter was arrested without incident at his home on Friday and remains held in custody on a $1 million bond.
