A 28-year-old Zion man died and a 38-year-old Waukegan man was injured following a shooting in a parking lot of an apartment complex in Waukegan Wednesday evening.

The Waukegan Police Department was called at 10 p.m. Wednesday to the 1400 block of Grand Avenue, near Butrick Street, for a report of shots fired. Police officers found a 28-year-old Zion man shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An hour later, police were notified about a second victim who self-transported himself to a different area hospital. Authorities said that man is a 38-year-old Waukegan man and he is in serious but stable condition.

Detectives from the Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are investigating. Officials believe both victims were shot in the same shooting but are not certain yet.

“Detectives do believe that the shootings are isolated incidents and that there is no direct threat to the community,” Waukegan Chief of Police Wayne Walles said.
