A man is dead and three others were injured after a head-on crash on the north side of Waukegan Thursday evening, police said.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department was called shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday to York House Road and East End Avenue in Waukegan for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Police found an older model Ford Mustang and a Dodge Challenger which collided head-on. Authorities said that the Mustang was driving eastbound when the Challenger crossed the center line and hit the Mustang head-on.
Waukegan Police said that a Beach Park man in his 70s was driving the Mustang. He was transported by Flight For Life to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Challenger, a man in his 60s, along with his two passengers, a woman in her 50s and a teenage girl, were also transported to the hospital. Police said that all three of them, who are Anchorage, Alaska residents, were treated and released from the hospital.
The driver of the Mustang was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Authorities said the driver of the Dodge Challenger was cited for improper lane usage and toxicology testing is pending.
An autopsy was performed today by the Lake County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
