A 33-year-old Waukegan is in custody after he fled from police when they tried to stop him during a drug deal in Lake Villa early Thursday morning.
A Lake County Sheriffโs deputy was on patrol around 3:20 a.m. in the area of Cremona Avenue and Verona Avenue in unincorporated Lake Villa when he witnessed what appeared to be a drug deal between a driver of a car and a pedestrian, Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.
Covelli said that the deputy tried to stop both the vehicle and the pedestrian. The pedestrian went inside a home in the 37400 block of North Cremona Avenue and the driver fled in the vehicle.
As Reginald D. Satchell, 33, of the 400 block of Hickory Street in Waukegan, fled the scene, he struck a curb and his vehicle became disabled, officials said.ย Satchell then fled on foot from the sheriff’s deputy.
Satchell was taken into custody following a brief foot chase. A Lake County Sheriffโs Canine Unit was called to search for drugs. Canine Dax found a package with 30 grams of cocaine that the suspect tried getting rid of, Covelli said.
Satchell was transported to the Lake County Jail and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, aggravated fleeing and eluding and resisting a peace officer.
Satchell remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on September 17.
