A 59-year-old man on a bicycle was killed Friday morning after being hit by a vehicle on Route 173 in Zion, police said.

The Zion Fire Department and Zion Police Department were called around 8:15 a.m. on Friday to Route 173 east of Green Bay Road in Zion.

Emergency crews found a 59-year-old Zion man struck by a vehicle. Police said the man was riding his bicycle when he was struck by the vehicle.

The man, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead after being transported by ambulance to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.

The driver of the car is cooperating with police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was called to assist the Zion Police Department with the investigation.

Police did not say how the crash happened or who was at fault.
