The homicide occurred in the 1600 block of 19th Street in Zion.

Shane Colella, 37, of Zion, was found shot to death inside a home in Zion Wednesday afternoon, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said.

The Zion Fire Department and Zion Police Department were called just after 1 p.m. on Wednesday to the 1600 block of 19th Street in Zion for a report of a deceased person.

Police officers found Colella unconscious inside the home after being shot. Paramedics confirmed the man was deceased and did not have any vital signs.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene and on Thursday an autopsy was conducted. Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper identified Colella and confirmed he died from injuries received from being shot.

Routine toxicology testing is pending. “We have been in contact with Mr. Colella’s family and our deepest condolences go out to them,” Dr. Cooper said.
