A 54-year-old man has been charged in connection with the September 5 shooting death of another Zion man.

The Zion Police Department announced on Thursday that the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved two counts of first-degree murder charges against Frank G. Farella, 54, of the 2300 block of Jethro Avenue in Zion.

Police were called to the 1600 block of 19th Street in Zion on September 5 and found Shane Colella, 37, of Zion, with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics determined Colella was deceased at the scene.

On Thursday, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Farella in connection with the murder. He appeared in bond court Thursday afternoon and a judge set his bond at $5 million.

Farella had been on parole since March 13 when he was charged in connection with the murder.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force and the Zion Police Department conducted the investigation into this homicide. Authorities did not say what the motive was behind the shooting.
