Terrance Shelton, 51, of Waukegan, was identified Friday as the man found shot to death in his front yard Wednesday night, the coroner said.

The Waukegan Police Department was called for a report of a man down in front of a home in the first block of North Jackson Street in Waukegan, which is just north of Washington Street.

Police officers found Shelton with gunshots wounds in the front yard of the home. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Police said that Shelton lived at the home where he was found dead.

Detectives from the Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the shooting.

Waukegan Chief of Police Wayne Walles said that detectives believe the incident is isolated. No suspects are in custody but police are following up on numerous leads, Walles said.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper confirmed Shelton died from gunshot wounds and said that the investigation is ongoing.

“Mr. Shelton’s family has been notified and our deepest condolences go out to them,” Dr. Cooper said.
