A 55-year-old Deerfield man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his wife. She was in critical condition but died Saturday afternoon, police said.

Gary A. Kamen, 55, of the 1000 block of Peachtree Lane in Deerfield, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

The Deerfield Police Department was called to Kamen’s home in the 1000 block of Peachtree Lane on Friday around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a domestic dispute.

Officers found 53-year-old Karyn Kamen significantly injured after being stabbed multiple times. Paramedics transported the woman to an area hospital where she was in critical condition until she died Saturday afternoon.

Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said that Gary was taken into custody Friday evening.

Covelli did not elaborate on the details of the incident but said there is no risk to the community.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy Monday morning.

The Deerfield Police Department and Lake County Major Crime Task Force continues to investigate. Gary Kamen is scheduled to appear in court Sunday morning.
