Bond was set at $10 million for a Deerfield man charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his wife at their home on Friday.
Gary A. Kamen, 55, of the 1000 block of Peachtree Lane in Deerfield, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. On Sunday, a judge set his bond at $10 million, which means he must post 10% in order to be released from jail.
Police were called to Gary Kamen’s home in the 1000 block of Peachtree Lane on Friday around 3:40 p.m. for a domestic dispute call.
Officers found Gary Kamen’s wife, Karyn Kamen, 53, significantly injured after being stabbed multiple times. Paramedics transported the woman to an area hospital where she was in critical condition until she died Saturday afternoon.
Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said that Gary Kamen was taken into custody Friday evening. He is now under special watch at the Lake County Jail after making statements, Covelli said.
Covelli did not elaborate on the details of the incident but said there is no risk to the community.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy Monday morning.
The Deerfield Police Department and Lake County Major Crime Task Force continues to investigate.
