A death investigation is underway after a man was found dead in a cornfield near a bloody vehicle in Wauconda Monday morning, police said.
The Wauconda Police Department said that officers were called at 8:51 a.m. to the 2000 block of North Rand Road in Wauconda for a report of a suspicious vehicle near a building.
The 911 caller told dispatchers that there was an unoccupied suspicious vehicle with a large amount of blood inside. When officers arrived they immediately deemed the incident as suspicious.
Police officers, canine units and drones were called to search the area. They found the body of a man, who is believed to be in his 40s, several hundred yards to the east in a large cornfield.
“The Wauconda Police Investigations Division is currently working with multiple law enforcement agencies on this case,” police said.
Authorities did not release any information about possible suspects involved or any other details about the incident.
