A man was robbed by another man, who he met on Facebook Marketplace, during a cellphone sale in front of the Best Buy in Gurnee. The suspect threatened to shoot the victim, the victim’s wife told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The Gurnee Police Department was called just before 7 p.m. on Monday to the Best Buy, 6525 Grand Avenue in Gurnee, for a report of a robbery.
According to the victim’s wife, her husband had posted an iPhone for sale on the Facebook Marketplace. The man contacted the victim and arranged to meet up at the Best Buy.
When the two met up, they went inside the Best Buy. When the two came out of the store to do the transaction, the suspect allegedly grabbed the iPhone from the victim and then made a gesture like he had a gun, the victim’s wife told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The suspect allegedly told the victim that if he followed him, he would shoot him. The suspect did not show a gun but implied he had one and then ran to a waiting car, which was described as a silver Honda Accord.
The suspect was a male black in his early 20s, 6-foot-1, 170 lbs. The vehicle he got into fled the scene south on Hunt Club Road, according to a police radio alert.
No one was injured during the robbery. The Gurnee Police Department has not yet released any information about the robbery.
