An 18-year-old woman was indicted by a grand jury this month for allegedly striking and killing a man with her car in Antioch, before fleeing the scene on the night of June 9.

Abby C. Hansen, 18, of the 37000 block of North Hillside Drive in Lake Villa Township, was indicted by a Lake County grand jury on September 12 on one count of leaving the scene of a fatal crash, which is a class 1 felony.

Brett Beckett, 52, of Antioch, was found critically injured on the shoulder of the road near near Grass Lake Road and Sunset Drive in unincorporated Antioch on June 9, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Beckett was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead, officials said. At the time of the crash, authorities said that Beckett was struck by either a Suzuki Vitara or Suzuki Sidekick that fled the scene.

An autopsy performed showed that Beckett died from multiple traumatic injuries sustained from being hit by a vehicle.

Three days after the crash, investigators located the vehicle they believe Hansen was driving, a 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara, at a body shop in Antioch. It had damage consistent with being involved in a pedestrian crash, investigators said.

Prosecutors said that Hansen was 17 years old at the time of the crash. She is free on a recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 27.
