Damage was estimated at $50,000 after a roof fire started Tuesday morning at the Wauconda Area Library, fire officials said.

The Wauconda Fire District was called at 9:09 a.m. on Tuesday for a report of a structure fire at the Wauconda Area Library, 801 North Main Street in Wauconda.

Arriving fire crews found light smoke showing from the roof area near the main entrance. The building was evacuated and everyone escaped safely, fire officials said.

Fire crews stopped the fire from spreading to the interior of the library. No one was injured. Crews worked at the scene for roughly two hours.

Fire investigators said that the cause of the fire is undetermined so far and damage is estimated at $50,000. The overhang of the building sustained fire damage, officials added.

The library has since reopened.
