A Waukegan woman was cited after police say she drove her car around road barricades and ended up crashing into a construction site on Route 45 in Libertyville Thursday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called at 7:40 p.m. Thursday to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a black Hyundai on Route 45 between Casey Road and Peterson Road under the Route 137 overpass.
Lynnea Williams, 21, of the 2500 block of Berkshire Court in Waukegan, drove over 1,000 feet past road barricades before crashing into the actual construction site, police said.
Williams was not injured and no one else was in the car with her at the time of the crash. She was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, disobeying a traffic control device and driving with an expired registration.
“Luckily, this driver wasn’t injured, but the car isn’t in great shape after the driver maneuvered around the road closure barricades,” sheriff’s officials said.
Route 45 closed on Thursday, just hours before the crash, for Metra crews to replace a retaining wall that collapsed during heavy rain on September 3 at the underpass.
Officials did not say what exactly caused Williams to crash. She is scheduled to appear in court on November 26.
Not defending this person, but there is no signage alerting drivers traveling from eastbound Peterson to northbound 45 that the road is closed. Thursday morning rush hour everybody had to turn around once they got to the road closed barricade.
