A 67-year-old Round Lake Beach man walking across the street with his bicycle died Monday evening after being hit by a car in Round Lake Beach, police said.

The Round Lake Beach Police Department and the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District was called Monday at 6:52 p.m. to Route 83 and Monaville Road.

Emergency crews found a 67-year-old man unresponsive after being struck by a 2008 Ford Taurus. The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Round Lake Beach Police Deputy Chief Michael Scott said that the man was walking his bicycle eastbound Route 83 crossing at Monaville Road when the southbound Ford Taurus, which was driven by a 26-year-old Lindenhurst woman, struck him.

A 27-year-old Wheeling woman driving an Infiniti became involved after her car struck debris in the northbound lanes, Scott said.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was carrying grocery bags and pushing his bicycle across the street when he was struck, Scott added.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to assist the Round Lake Beach Police Department with the accident investigation.
