A freight train struck a jackknifed semi-trailer truck in Wadsworth Friday afternoon, and it was all caught on video.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called at 12:30 p.m. Friday to the railroad tracks on Route 173 east of Route 41 in Wadsworth for a train that struck a semi-truck.

Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a semi-truck carrying a trailer was driving westbound on Route 173 when a car in front of the semi-truck came to a sudden stop as the railroad track crossing lights turned on, according to a preliminary investigation.

Covelli said that it’s believed the semi-truck driver drove around the car to try and avoid hitting it but ended up jackknifing the trailer. The semi-truck driver was able to escape from his truck, which was partially stuck on the train tracks.

A northbound freight train on the Canadian Pacific tracks was unable to stop in time and hit the semi-trailer truck. No one was injured, Covelli said.
