Police are searching for a reckless vehicle that struck and injured a child while he was trick-or-treating in Libertyville Wednesday evening.
The Libertyville Police Department and Libertyville Fire Department were called at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday to the 200 block of Pond Ridge Road for a report of a hit-and-run crash involving a child.
Libertyville Police Department Lt. Ed Roncone said that a 10-year-old child had been trick-or-treating with several other children when he was hit by a car.
Roncone said that witnesses reported seeing a gray Nissan or Lexus four-door sedan with tinted windows jump the curb, strike a mailbox and then hit the child.
The vehicle fled the subdivision at a high rate of speed and had heavy front passenger side damage from the crash.
The child was conscious and breathing when paramedics transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center, Roncone said. He was expected to be released later Wednesday evening.
Police are asking that anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to call the Libertyville Police Department at 847-362-8310. Police are also asking that local car dealerships and body shops be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle if it happens to be brought in for repair.
