A seller on the Letgo app was robbed at gunpoint by a prospective buyer during the transaction in a Waukegan parking lot, police said.

Waukegan Police Chief Wayne Walles said that officers were called at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to a parking lot in the 700 block of North Green Bay Road for a report of an armed robbery.

The victim, who was selling something on the website Letgo, met up with the prospective buyer to complete the transaction when the victim was robbed at gunpoint for the property, according to police.

The suspect, who is described as a male black in his mid-20s, 5-foot-10, 200 pounds, was seen fleeing the area on foot after pulling a handgun on the victim and taking the victim’s property that was for sale.

Officials refused to say what was taken during the robbery. Residents are encouraged to use their local police departments as safe exchange locations for online transactions, Walles said.
