Ayesha Siddiqui, 47, of Waukegan, was charged with first-degree murder after she allegedly stabbed her husband to death and then tried killing herself at their Waukegan home last week.
The Waukegan Police Department was called at 7:30 a.m. November 20 to a home in the 4400 block of Swallowtail Drive, which is on the city’s southwest side near O’Plaine Road.
Waukegan Police Chief Wayne Walles said that Ayesha Siddiqui called 911 and said she stabbed her 38-year-old husband, Raoof Siddiqui. Police responded and observed the woman trying to flee the scene in her car.
Police officers pursued Ayesha Siddiqui eastbound on Route 120 before the car came to a stop at Knight Avenue and Route 120 in Park City. She was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital with serious injuries after she stabbed herself, Walles said.
At the couple’s home, police found Raoof Siddiqui stabbed to death. He was pronounced dead by paramedics.
On Wednesday, Ayesha Siddiqui was transported by police from an area hospital to her bond hearing. She is being held on a $3 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on December 26.
An autopsy conducted on Raoof Siddiqui showed that he died from injuries caused by sharp force trauma, Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said. Police have not released a possible motive for the murder and no other information has been released.
