A 63-year-old man was found dead in a front yard of a home after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Waukegan Saturday evening, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded at 6:45 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person down at Crescent Avenue and Northern Avenue in Waukegan.

Police found a 63-year-old Waukegan man in the front yard of a home near the intersection. Authorities determined he had been hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported by ambulance to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that the man had been walking on Crescent Avenue east of Northern Avenue when he was struck by the vehicle.

“Traffic crash investigators collected evidence at the scene and are speaking with nearby homeowners to determine if they witnessed the fatal crash,” Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.

An autopsy is being scheduled by the Lake County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
