A man armed with a large knife tried robbing a convenience store in Beach Park Tuesday afternoon, but he ran away without getting any money from the clerk, police said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday to the Stop and Save, 38478 North Sheridan Road in Beach Park, for an attempted armed robbery.
The store clerk told police that a male black, around 5-foot-7, 170 pounds, entered the store wearing a black mask, black jacket, gloves and blue jeans. He demanded money and was armed with a large knife, Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.
The store clerk defended himself and the man ran from the scene before getting any money or property, Covelli added. A Lake County Sheriff Canine Unit was called to the scene and conducted a track of the suspect.
The police canine lost track of the suspect a short distance away. Authorities believe the suspect got into a dark blue or black late 2000s Chevrolet Impala with tinted windows.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 847-377-4154.
