Investigators have released a list of vehicle make and models which could be involved in the fatal hit-and-run of 63-year-old Robert Barron on Saturday in Waukegan.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded at 6:45 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person down at Crescent Avenue and Northern Avenue in Waukegan.
Police found 63-year-old Waukegan resident Robert Barron in the front yard of a home near the intersection. Authorities determined he had been hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Barron was transported by ambulance to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that the man had been walking on Crescent Avenue east of Northern Avenue when he was struck by the vehicle.
Traffic crash investigators collected evidence at the scene and spoke with nearby homeowners, Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.
On Thursday, Covelli said that investigators believe the vehicle is a 2001-2005 Buick Century, 2001-2004 Buick Regal, 2001-2006 Chevrolet Impala, 2002-2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo or a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue.
“If you know anyone that drives one of these vehicles and it has new front-end damage, damage to the hood, or front passenger-side, please call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office,” Covelli said.
An autopsy conducted by the Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed Barron died from injuries caused by blunt force trauma. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
