The shooting occurred at a home in the 600 block of West Nippersink Road in Round Lake.

A pregnant woman was shot and critically injured during a disturbance at a home in Round Lake Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The Round Lake Police Department and the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District was called around 2 p.m. Tuesday to a home in the 600 block of West Nippersink Road for a report of a shooting.

Police found a pregnant woman with a gunshot wound to the head. Paramedics transported her to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she remains in critical condition.

Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said that the woman is believed to be in her 20s. Police would not confirm if anyone was arrested but sources say that a person of interest was taken into custody.

Covelli said that there is no threat to the community and everyone at the scene is “accounted for.”

Round Lake Village Elementary School, located at 880 West Nippersink Road, and Round Lake Early Education Center, located 882 West Nippersink Road, were both put on lockdown due to the proximity of the shooting. The lockdown lasted 20 minutes.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force and the Round Lake Police Department continue to investigate.
