A 26-year-old woman was charged after police say she unintentionally shot her girlfriend early Saturday morning in Lake in the Hills.
Alexandria Farrington, 26, of the 400 block of Plum Street in Lake in the Hills, was charged with reckless conduct and reckless discharge of a firearm, both felonies.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department said that officers were called to Farrington’s home for a report of a person shot at 4:18 a.m. Saturday.
Investigators learned that Farrington accidentally shot her 29-year-old girlfriend in the left shoulder during a dispute. Police recovered a handgun at the scene.
The woman was transported by paramedics in stable condition to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital for treatment. Farrington was arrested and transported to the McHenry County Jail where she was released on Monday after posting bail.
“The Lake in the Hills Police Department urges the public to always handle firearms in a safe manner,” police officials said in a statement.
Farrington is scheduled to appear in court again on January 3.
