The Lake Forest Oasis sign on the ramp from Interstate 94 to the Oasis sustained major damage after a Jeep driving at a high rate of speed slammed into it Friday evening.

The crash, which involved an older model Jeep Cherokee, happened around 10:30 p.m. Friday on the ramp that leads to the east side of the Lake Forest Oasis from northbound Interstate 94.

A tow truck driver who witnessed the crash said that the Jeep was driving at a high rate of speed, possibly around 100 miles per hour. The man driving the car suffered injuries to his leg and hip, and had a possible concussion, but was not seriously injured, according to another witness at the scene.

Paramedics transported the man by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

It is unknown if the driver was cited or arrested. Requests for information from the Illinois State Police were not returned as of Saturday afternoon.

  1. Awesome photos, got the guy laying on the ground after the crash. Good scoop by the photographer. Surprised it doesn’t happen more often seeing 100 mph is the usual speed of drivers on I-94.
