A young woman walking in a crosswalk was killed Saturday evening after being hit by an SUV in Ingleside, police said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Fox Lake Fire Protection District were called at 5:30 p.m. Saturday to Wilson Road and Rollins Road in Ingleside for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a 2016 Jeep Patriot, driven by an 18-year-old woman from Lake Villa, was driving southbound when she struck a pedestrian, who was believed to be walking in the crosswalk.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep, who remained at the scene, was uninjured and cooperating with the investigation. The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and is scheduling an autopsy on the victim.
“The pedestrian did not have any identification on her person. She is a young-adult. Investigators are seeking assistance in identifying her,” Covelli said. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
Anyone with information about the crash or the identity of the pedestrian is encouraged to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 847-549-5200 or the Lake County Coroner’s Office at 847-377-2200.
