16-year-old Sydney Weber from Fox Lake was identified as the girl struck and killed by a car in Ingleside Saturday evening, the Lake County Coroner’s Office announced.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Fox Lake Fire Protection District were called at 5:30 p.m. Saturday to Wilson Road and Rollins Road in Ingleside for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a 2016 Jeep Patriot, driven by an 18-year-old woman from Lake Villa, was driving southbound when she struck Sydney, who was believed to be walking in the crosswalk.

Sydney was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep, who remained at the scene, was uninjured and cooperating with the investigation.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office publicly identified Sydney Tuesday evening and said that she died from injuries caused by blunt force trauma. Routine toxicology testing is pending.

The driver of the Jeep has not been charged or cited yet. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Sydney was a sophomore who attended Grant High School in Fox Lake. “She was a free spirit, uniquely her own person. Sydney posed a heart of gold, and was a very sweet and loving soul… She always did good in giving to others, especially to the homeless people on the streets of Chicago,” her obituary read.

A visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Spring Grove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road in Spring Grove, and the funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church, 6000 Route 173 in Richmond.
