Ronaldo Rivas, 64, of Lake Villa.

A 64-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly strangled and injured a nurse trying to check his blood sugar at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, police said.

Ronaldo Rivas, 64, of the 21900 block of Engle Drive in Lake Villa, was charged with aggravated battery to a nurse, which is a felony.

The Libertyville Police Department said that officers were called at 9:13 p.m. Saturday to Advocate Condell Medical Center, 801 South Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, for a report of a battery involving a patient and nurse.

A nurse told police that Rivas was ‘aggressive and irritable’ and when she tried checking his blood sugar he strangled her. Officers wrote in their police report that the nurse had red marks around her neck, but she was not seriously injured, Sgt. Jeffrey Stolzenburg told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

Police arrested Rivas the next day around 5:15 a.m. when he was released from the hospital. He was processed at the Libertyville Police Department and then transported to the Lake County Jail for a bond hearing.

He currently remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $20,000 bond and was ordered by a judge to not have any contact with the nurse or hospital if he were to be released on bail. Rivas is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday.

  1. I don’t condone what this man did. But that hospital has some of the worse doctors and nurses in the county!!! They are rude crude and mean.

  2. That is absolutely NOT true. You may have had one bad experience and that gives you no right to express yourself about an entire group of professionals. They have excellent service and are very compassionate, patient, dedicated, and extremely professional.

  3. I have attended this hospital for emergencies and 2 labors. They have excellent service and are very compassionate, patient, dedicated, and extremely professional!
