Keanu C. Gibson, 23, of Zion.

A sex offender from Zion wanted on numerous crimes was captured in Ohio after the Lake County Sheriff’s Office got a tip following their weekly ‘Wanted Wednesday’ post.

Keanu C. Gibson, 23, of the 1600 block of Barnhart Court in Zion, was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear in court on charges of criminal sexual abuse, violating sex offender registry requirements and burglary.

Gibson also had an arrest warrant for escape. The warrants were issued after Gibson cut off his electronic monitoring device and did not return to a community based corrections center in October.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office posted a flyer on their social media as part of their weekly ‘Wanted Wednesday’ post where they feature a wanted criminal.

The social media post was shared over 1,000 times and seen by over 50,000 people. One of the tips the sheriff’s office received was that Gibson fled the Illinois area to avoid being arrested.

U.S. Marshals arrested Gibson at a residence in the 2000 block of Palisades Drive in Dayton, Ohio on Thursday. “They heard movement in an upstairs bedroom and deployed a robot to check the room.  Using the robot, they discovered Gibson hiding in an upstairs closet,” Covelli said.

Gibson was arrested without incident and transported to the Montgomery County Jail where he remains held pending extradition to Illinois.

“We are grateful for the community’s participation in our ‘Wanted Wednesday’ initiative.  Because of the community’s engagement and tips, we’ve apprehended several fugitives,” Sheriff John Idleburg said.
