An intoxicated 19-year-old woman crashed her car into a home in Beach Park early Saturday morning, causing major damage to the house, police said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Beach Park Fire Department responded around 2:10 a.m. Saturday to a report of a car that struck a house near Yorkhouse Road and Geraghty Ave. Police found major damage to a home in the 10000 block of West Yorkhouse Road after a 2007 Chrysler Sebring struck the house.
Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a 19-year-old woman from Waukegan was driving the Chrysler eastbound on Yorkhouse Road when it drove off the roadway and into an unoccupied home.
The house was deemed uninhabitable due to the damage and the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She was the only person in the car and was able to walk away from the crash and go to a nearby home for help.
She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Covelli said that the woman was intoxicated.
“Alcohol and operating a vehicle don’t mix. If you’ve been drinking, don’t risk getting behind the wheel. Find an alternative method to get to where you’re going – it’s simply not worth risking your life and the life of others,” Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
When will people learn how dangerous it is to drive drunk? My daughter was killed by a drunk driver 2yrs ago. Hope the young lady will be ok, this is a real eye opener for her to not ever drink and or drive.
