A Waukegan man wanted for shooting another man in North Chicago was captured after police found him hiding in a cabinet during an arrest warrant.
Deontre A. Daniels, 27, of the 900 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Waukegan, had an active arrest warrant for aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery.
Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that Daniels was involved in a fight with a man in the 0-100 block of Prairie View Court in North Chicago in November. During the fight, Daniels allegedly shot the man and fled before police arrived.
On Wednesday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Warrants Team and U.S. Marshals conducted surveillance at his residence and observed him inside. Police forced entry to the front door of the home and Daniels ran to the basement.
“Warrants Deputies entered the basement, where there were several aggressive dogs guarding a cabinet. Deputies were able to maneuver around the dogs, and located Daniels hiding inside of the cabinet,” Covelli said.
Daniels was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains held on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on January 10.
