Edward A. Redmond, 68, of the 300 block of Valhalla Circle in Crystal Lake, and John A. Redmond, 31, of the 2000 block of Butrick Street in Waukegan, were arrested on Friday, police said.

A 68-year-old Crystal Lake man was arrested after police say he tried hiding his 31-year-old son, who was wanted on sex abuse and child pornography charges.

John A. Redmond, 31, who used to live in the 2000 block of Butrick Street in Waukegan, was wanted for failing to appear in court on a previous criminal sexual abuse case that originated out of Vernon Hills in 2013. He was also wanted for child pornography, a class X felony, which originated from a case out of Mundelein in 2016.

John Redmond was on the Lake County Sheriff’s Office most wanted list and is a registered sex offender, authorities said. Anonymous sources tipped off police that he worked at a construction site in the 26200 block of Elmwood Avenue in unincorporated Mundelein.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office also learned that John Redmond was avoiding arrest by living with his father, Edward A. Redmond, 68, of the 300 block of Valhalla Circle in Crystal Lake. John Redmond was seenย by police, who were conducting surveillance, leaving the Crystal Lake home on Friday.

They followed him to his workplace in Mundelein and arrested him without incident. Edward Redmond was arrested and charged with obstructing service of process, a class B misdemeanor, for his role in hiding John Redmond from authorities, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

John Redmond remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Edward Redmond was processed and released on a $1,500 recognizance bond. They are both scheduled to appear in court again on January 29.
