A man believed to have robbed four food delivery drivers in Zion, and numerous delivery drivers in Racine, was caught on Monday, police said.

Donte L. Gates, 27, of Racine, Wisconsin, was arrested on Monday and charged with four counts of aggravated robbery.

The Zion Police Department said that the robberies were occurring in the 2600 block of Gabriel Avenue and 2600 block of Gideon Avenue in Zion.

They began on December 15 and police said that Gates would order food and then display what appeared to be a handgun to the delivery drivers demanding cash. Four robberies occurred in this area, police said.

Deputy Chief Kirk Henderson said that police got a break in the case on Monday around 7 p.m. when officers responded to two separate armed robberies in the 2600 block of Gabriel Avenue.

“Officers quickly surrounded the apartment and were able to get a woman and two children to exit the apartment. Officers entered and determined the offender was hiding in the attic,” Henderson said.

Additional charges are expected from the Racine Police Department, who said that Gates was also a suspect in several armed robberies and a shooting in Racine.
