A 16-year-old boy escaped from police custody Wednesday afternoon and stole a vehicle in Riverwoods, before police chased and arrested him again on the Edens Spur in Northbrook.
The Riverwoods Police Department arrested a 16-year-old boy, who was wanted for burglarizing a vehicle, around 4 p.m. Wednesday. The boy, who was not in handcuffs, then escaped from a police officer at the police station, located 845 Saunders Road in Riverwoods.
A perimeter was setup and police from numerous nearby towns were called to help search for the suspect, who soon after stole a 2014 GMC Yukon Denali SUV from the Ravinia Green Country Club. Police spotted the vehicle on Half Day Road near the Tri-State Tollway in Lincolnshire and followed it to the Edens Spur.
OnStar was able to slow the vehicle down to a stop on the Edens Spur west of Route 41 in Northbrook. The suspect ran from the stolen vehicle and was chased by officers, who took him into custody a short time later.
An ambulance was called for the suspect after he suffered a minor knee injury during the chase. Police have not yet released any other information about the incident.
