A Marine Corps recruiter from North Chicago has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of a teenage recruit from Lake Villa, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
Alexander N. Louis, 27, of the 1800 block of Georgia Avenue in North Chicago, was charged with criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony.
Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that detectives began investigating on Friday. They learned that Louis, who has been assigned to the Marine Corps Recruiting Center in Waukegan since 2016, drove to the teenage victim’s home near Lake Villa on several occasions while her parents were not home, Covelli said.
“During one of those occasions he engaged in an act of sexual penetration with the juvenile,” Covelli said.
Officials said that the victim was working to enlist in the Marine Corps. “As Louis held a position of trust, authority, and supervision over the juvenile, he was subsequently arrested,” Covelli said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that the United States Marine Corps has been “fully cooperative during this investigation” and sheriff’s detectives have been working with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
Louis, who was arrested on Tuesday, remains held in the Lake County Jail pending a bond review scheduled for Friday.
