Abdul J. Baloch, 26, of Chicago.

A Chicago man has been charged in connection with fatally hitting a 22-year-old man with his car and leaving the scene in Waukegan.

Abdul J. Baloch, 26, of Chicago, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and failure to report an accident involving death.

The Waukegan Police Department and the Waukegan Fire Department responded at 11:45 p.m. on February 3 to Grand Avenue near Frolic Avenue for a person down in the street.

Waukegan Police Chief Wayne Walles said that responding officers found Christopher Harris, 22, of Waukegan, in the street after being hit by a silver 2005 Ford Explorer.

Harris was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead.

The Waukegan Police Department’s Major Traffic Crash Unit (MTCU) was called to investigate the incident. Investigators said that Harris was in the curb lane for eastbound traffic when he was struck by Baloch’s vehicle.

Baloch was arrested on Monday at his home in Chicago, police said. The 2005 Ford Explorer involved in the crash was also recovered at Baloch’s home and is being processed by investigators.

An autopsy on Harris confirmed he died from blunt force injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Routine toxicology results are pending.

Baloch remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 3.
