A street gang member was arrested by police on Tuesday after they found him in possession of ecstasy and cocaine during a traffic stop in Round Lake Heights.
Angel A. Castro, 22, of the 1200 block of Barberry Lane in Round Lake Beach, was charged with two felony counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and two felony counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that Gang Task Force members conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Castro near Fairfield Road and Lake Shore Drive in Round Lake Heights around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that Castro, who is a documented street gang member, was stopped after police witnessed him commit several traffic infractions.
Police learned that Castro was driving without a license and he was arrested, leading authorities to find Castro in possession of ecstasy and cocaine, Covelli said.
“The primary responsibility of the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force is to intercept these poisons before they make it into the hands of others, while holding drug pushers accountable. Criminal gang activity and illegal drugs have no place here in Lake County,” Sheriff John Idleburg said.
Castro remains held at the Lake County Jail on a $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 13.
