A 22-year-old man is ‘beyond lucky’ after only suffering non-life-threatening injuries after being ejected from his vehicle during a crash near Third Lake Friday evening, a Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called at 6:40 p.m. Friday to Route 45 and Rollins Road for a report of a three-vehicle crash with injuries and major damage.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by a 22-year-old Round Lake Beach man, was driving eastbound on Rollins Road when he drove through the red light, according to a preliminary investigation.
He entered the intersection, striking a northbound 2005 Honda Accord, driven by a 33-year-old Grayslake man. The Honda then struck a 2013 Subaru Legacy, driven by a 54-year-old Third Lake man, that was stopped in the westbound lanes just east of the intersection, Covelli said.
The 22-year-old man driving the Chevrolet was ejected from his vehicle. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The driver of the Chevrolet is beyond lucky he wasnโt critically injured or killed,” Covelli said to Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The driver of the Honda was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Subaru, and a 16-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the car, were uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriffโs Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
I personally know the 22 year old man and he wasnโt โEjectedโ he said that he knew and he saw that he was going to hit the pole so he jumped out of the car. If he wouldnโt have jumped out, he would have died from how hard the car hit the pole.
