The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents after a string of 16 vehicle thefts have occurred in Lake County since January.
Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that most of the 16 vehicle thefts have involved running vehicles, which are left unoccupied while the car is warming up.
Covelli said that most of the thefts have occurred in the northeast part of Lake County near the Waukegan area.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that drivers should not leave their vehicle running while it is unoccupied. Drivers should also remove all spare key fobs from their vehicle, utilize exterior lighting if parking outdoors and consider exterior cameras, the sheriff’s office added.
