An Illinois State Police trooper was injured after a drunk driver crashed into his squad car on Interstate 94 near Lake Forest early Friday morning.

Clyde Maki Jr., 50, of the 1800 block of 104th Street in Pleasant Prairie, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence and aggravated driving on a suspended license. He was also issued several traffic citations.

Illinois State Police said that the trooper was parked in a marked squad car in the center crossover on Interstate 94 near mile marker 19.5, just south of Route 60, when his car was struck by a white Ford Econoline van that drove onto the shoulder around 12:24 a.m.

The Lake Forest Fire Department and Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded and transported the trooper and Maki to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Illinois State Police said that the trooper has since been released from the hospital.

Court and jail records relating to the case are not yet available. The crash remains under investigation.

This is at least the 12th crash involving an Illinois State Police car since January 1, according to the Illinois State Police.
