Daniel K. Martin, 31, of Lake Villa.

A Lake Villa father was arrested after sheriff’s officials said he bit his 10-month-old child because he was angry she would not fall asleep.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was notified on Monday by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) about possible child abuse which occurred at a home in the 38800 block of North Cedar Crest Drive in unincorporated Lake Villa.

A police investigation was opened and detectives responded to the residence and met with a family member and a 10-month-old girl.

“The child had what appeared to be bite marks and bruises on her face and arms,” Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.

Covelli said that further investigation found that the father of the child, 31-year-old Daniel K. Martin, who lived at the residence, bit the child out of anger because the baby would not fall asleep.

Martin was arrested and charged with aggravated battery to a child and two counts of domestic battery.

“The child was seen by a doctor yesterday for the injuries. She is going to be okay and a safety-plan with DCFS is now in place, to help ensure the infant’s well-being,” Covelli said.

Martin remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 18.
