A 10-year-old boy died after the van he was in rolled over into a retention pond along Interstate 90 in Huntley Sunday evening, police said.

Illinois State Police said that a Chrysler van was traveling on the westbound ramp from Interstate 90 to Route 47 around 6:45 p.m. when it went off the ramp and into a retention pond.

The van was submerged on its roof in the pond.

Two Good Samaritans helped the driver of the van, Stacy Blume, 38, of Northlake, and a 10-year-old girl out of the vehicle, according to state police. Firefighters rescued the 10-year-old boy, who was unresponsive, from the vehicle a short time later.

All three people were transported to an area hospital. The boy was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m. The woman and the girl suffered minor injuries.

No further information has been released by Illinois State Police. The crash remains under investigation.

In August, a woman rolled her car over into the same retention pond. She miraculously survived after being rescued by Good Samaritans, which was captured on a traffic camera.
