Police investigate an armed robbery at the Shell gas station at Route 31 and Route 176 in Crystal Lake Sunday evening.

Police are investigating two armed robberies in Crystal Lake and a third in Island Lake Sunday evening, all believed to have been committed by the same suspects.

The Crystal Lake Police Department responded at 6:47 p.m. Sunday to the Shell gas station, 4811 Northwest Highway, for an armed robbery.

Police said that two suspects entered the store and one of them displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspects left the store with cash and merchandise.

They were seen running southbound from the scene on Manor Road. No injuries were reported.

Less than an hour later at 7:40 p.m., Crystal Lake police received a 911 call of an armed robbery at the Shell gas station, 280 North Route 31.

Police said that the same suspects entered the store and both displayed handguns and demanded money from the clerks. They fled the scene northbound on foot with cash. No injuries were reported.

A short time later, a third armed robbery was reported nearby at the Mobil gas station, 520 Newport Court in Island Lake. It is believed to be the same two suspects as those in the Crystal Lake robberies.

Police said that the first suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet tall, heavy build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and black athletic shoes. The second suspect is described as a male black or Hispanic, 5-foot-10, medium build, wearing a blue colored hooded jacket with white stripes down each arm, ripped blue jeans, a baseball cap and dark shoes.

The robberies remain under investigation. The Crystal Lake Police Department is asking that anyone who may have information to call 815-356-3620 or Crime Stoppers at 800-762-7867 for those who wish to remain anonymous.
