A 22-year-old who was in his bedroom was seriously injured after a gunman shot him from outside the home early Monday morning in Mundelein.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called at 2:15 a.m. Monday to a residence in the 26200 block of North Hickory Avenue in unincorporated Mundelein for a report of a person shot.

Police found a 22-year-old resident of the home injured with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said. He was transported by paramedics to a local hospital in serious condition.

Covelli said that a preliminary investigation shows the man was shot while in his bedroom by someone who fired from outside of the residence on foot.

The shooting is believed to be gang-related and the victim was the intended target, Covelli added.
