A 64-year-old man was killed Friday morning after his car went off the road and crashed into a gate and trees near Harvard, sheriff’s officials said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Harvard Fire Protection District and Flight For Life were called around 8:29 a.m. Friday to a single-vehicle crash in the 6400 block of Schultz Road in unincorporated Harvard.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that a 2003 Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Schultz Road when it went off the roadway, drove onto the grassy shoulder and continued southbound off the roadway where it struck a private entrance gate and trees.

The driver, identified as Kevin H. O’Connor, 64, of Harvard, was pronounced dead at the scene. O’Connor was wearing his seatbelt and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.

An autopsy has been scheduled and funeral arrangements are pending.

The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
