An 18-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing a 20-year-old man in North Chicago on May 4, police said.

Marquez D. Walker-McVae, 18, of the 2100 block of Grove Ave in North Chicago, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

The North Chicago Police Department responded at 8:40 p.m. May 4 to the 800 block of 13th Street for multiple calls of shots fired. Police found Xavier D. Collins, 20, of North Chicago, on the ground near the roadway with a gunshot wound.

Collins was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called to assist in the investigation.

Walker-McVae was charged and arrested on Friday after detectives determined he was an individual responsible for the shooting, Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said.

Walker-McVae appeared in court on Saturday and his bond was set at $1.5 million. He is scheduled to appear in court again on May 17.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Lake County Major Crime Task Force and North Chicago Police Department.
