An intoxicated woman who ran from the police was critically injured after being struck by a car on Fairfield Road near Wauconda Wednesday evening.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday of an intoxicated person near Fairfield Road and Schwerman Road in unincorporated Wauconda.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found an abandoned 2017 Honda Civic on the side of Fairfield Road. They found a 27-year-old Lake Zurich woman, who had been driving the Civic, hiding in a wooded area near the vehicle.

Police began speaking with the woman when she abruptly ran onto Fairfield Road, Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said. As she entered the roadway she was struck by a southbound 1999 Honda Odyssey.

The female suffered critical injuries after being hit by the vehicle. She was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The driver of the Honda Odyssey, a 35-year-old Round Lake Park man, was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
