A woman escaped unharmed after firefighters rescued her from the roof of her burning home in Lake Forest early Friday morning.
The Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 4:22 a.m. Friday to the 100 block of Linden Avenue for a report of a house fire. Police arrived and found the homeowner on the roof in the rear of the house.
Fire crews arrived and found moderate smoke showing from the home. A firefighter was able to place a ladder to the roof and rescue the woman, Lake Forest Fire Department Division Chief Mike Gallo said. Other firefighters pulled a hose line and had water on the fire within minutes.
Additional fire crews completed a search of the home to ensure no one else was inside the home. The fire was extinguished 20 minutes later around 4:40 a.m.
The woman was evaluated by paramedics for smoke inhalation but refused medical treatment, Gallo said. There were no injuries to emergency personnel.
There was significant smoke and fire damage to the home and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Firefighters from Highland Park, Libertyville, Countryside, Lincolnshire and Deerfield assisted at the scene. The Wheeling, Mundelein and Lake Bluff fire departments covered calls for Lake Forest during the incident.
