Police are speaking with a person of interest after a 42-year-old Waukegan man died after he was stabbed Friday evening in Zion.

The Zion Police Department responded around 10 p.m. Friday to a call of a fight involving two people at an apartment complex in the 4100 block of Barberry Lane. A 911 caller reported that one of the people was armed with a knife.

Police officers found a 42-year-old Waukegan man in the parking lot with a stab wound to the torso. The man was conscious and spoke with officers before he was transported by ambulance to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.

His condition worsened and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. The Lake County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy on the man for Monday.

The Zion Police Department said Saturday morning that detectives were questioning a person of interest. No further information has been released and the man’s name is being withheld pending notification to his next of kin.
